Nancy
Nancy wasn’t keen to leave her home of over 40 years, but she was beginning to agree with her sons that living on her own was becoming more difficult. They were worried, as since her husband had had died many years ago, and many of her friends since, she was now socializing much less. She did not want to agree with them, even though she knew it to be true.
She also didn’t feel safe these days going shopping on her own , or even alone in the house with the changing neighbourhood. Money was becoming difficult too. In spite of her home being worth around $350,000, each week she hardly scraped enough money to live, let alone go out and enjoy herself. But Nancy was old school, she would never ask her children for financial or other assistance because they were busy with their own lives.
“I just don’t feel like I’m 70”, said Nancy. “But I realize now that it will be so much easier living at The Lodge. The things I needed assistance with like managing the gardens, and cleaning will all be done for me so I can have more free time to do the things I want to do, socialise with a whole new group of friends, and still continue to live independently.” she said.
“What appealed to me”, said Nancy “is that it’s brand new and very homelike but with all the modern facilities - and of course all meals are provided which is great because it’s no fun cooking for one”.
Arthur
“I was feeling lonely living by myself and I was determined not to become dependent on my family for social outings because they already live busy enough lives” said spritely 78 year old Arthur. I just wanted to have access to some social interaction independently of my family. I am also looking forward to learning how to use the computer so that I can send emails to my grandchildren in England”, he said.
“I wanted to get in early, so I could have the best choices in the accommodation and most importantly the position”, said Arthur, “The Directors have approved an agreement which will allow me to move into The Lodge while my home is still being sold. This is such a bonus – it takes so much of the stress away”, he said. “I am also looking forward to the bonus of them installing an air-conditioner for free as part of my package. This summer I have really felt the heat”.
