It was 2006, and I was the primary carer for my sister who wasn’t well.
I was 92 and my sister was 88. I was at a stage where it was too
hard to look after my sister, so it was time to put her where she could
get the care she needed. A place called the Lodge had just opened.
So my daughter and I went to the Lodge and we knew
immediately that the nursing home was the right place for my sister.
After my sister had been there 2 weeks and seeing the improvements she
was making I decided to move into the co-located Lodge.
5 years on my sister is in the Nursing Home with the care she
currently needs and I am still in my own unit looking after my own garden
Because my sister co-located to the Nursing Home It is very easy for my
family to come and visit the both of us. I am now 99 years young and moving
into the Lodge was one of the best moves that I have made in my later years.
I am very happy here and is a great place for my 14 great grandchildren
to can come and visit us.

My residency at the Lodge began in 2007. The reason for moving
was mainly in that I had an adverse reaction to a medication.
Fortunately this reaction took place as I was visiting a specialist for another medical
condition. At that time I was residing on a rural property, on my
own during daylight hours, had this reaction occurred on the
property there is no way I could have made it to the telephone
and I would not be writing this testimony. As medical care may be required
urgently, It was prudent to move to where people where close by and able to assist me.
My eldest daughter had observed the building of the Lodge.
She lived nearby and inspected the premises and suggested that I enquire to make the move
In my situation it was the best move I could make. The meals are very good.
The best thing is I no longer had had to do the cooking or dishes.
I have put on 10 kgs. You should have seen the meals I had prepared for myself when I
was residing alone.
The residents have plenty of free time to come and go as they please
